Santander Private Banking in Jersey Relocate and Renovate Durrell’s Organic Farm
Santander Private Banking in Jersey are key supporters of environmental protection and conservation, and are proud to work alongside our charity partner Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust. In October over 100 of our staff contributed 600 man hours, over 4 days, to help relocate and renovate the organic farm and refurbish the waste management area.
Throughout the week the teams carried out a variety of challenging tasks, including; digging a trench across the length of the farm to lay down a water pipe, weeding the new area and laying down compost for new vegetables to be planted, putting up new boarding walls for the waste management area and cutting down old trees and undergrowth to create more room for the farm.
The work to relocate and renovate both the organic farm and the waste management area is expected to bring significant financial, practical and operational benefits to Durrell, whilst enabling more efficient use of the land and resources available. The farm’s new position and layout has been specially designed to allow the expansion of its organic cultivation. This means that Durrell will be able to grow more organic produce on site, with plans to open a Durrell farm shop in the future, helping to generate much needed additional funds to support care for its inhabitants and to improve Durrell’s self-sustainability.
Paul Masterton, Durrell Chief Executive Officer said “The relocation and development of the organic farm is a real boost to the teams working in that area and will save the Trust significant long term investment. Generous support from companies such as Santander Private Banking means that more of Durrell’s precious resources can be focussed on our core mission - to save endangered species from extinction.”
Managing Director Colin Huelin says: “At Santander Private Banking we are committed to investing and working in partnership with the broader community in which we operate. As key supporters of environmental protection and conservation, Santander Private Banking was delighted to have the opportunity to work alongside our charity partner, Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust. Volunteering on the Durrell Organic Farm project not only enabled the company to engage with a truly worthwhile charity, it also offered our staff a real team building activity with tangible results. It is those results that will benefit Durrell, and the community as a whole. ”
